“As a 6th generation Eastern Shore native, I’ve been flying over the Chesapeake Bay for many years now, capturing images of pollution and environmental changes, as well as the natural beauty of this unique estuary. So many environmental challenges can’t be detected or fully appreciated from the ground. Understanding and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its surroundings is important to me. I want to share these aerial perspectives to help make people aware of what is going on around them. These images never fail to generate conversations as they show disturbing surprises. It is my hope that these conversations will help us all learn to become better stewards of the Chesapeake and its tributaries.”

Aerial Photography Reveals Contamination and Land Loss
In a startling display of photographs shot over the Chesapeake Bay and the Delmarva peninsula, aerial photographer Hunter Harris sent GWAA attendees at our June 13th meeting home with haunting images of the damage that humans are causing -- streams of oil from poorly maintained boats, tentacles of farmland runoff, "dust storms" of sea floor chopped up by clamb boats, algae blooms that practically glow in the dark and the steady erosion of the our poorly protected shorelines. Not visible from the banks of the Chesapeake or from the vantage point of sailboats and yachts, the devastation of our precious land and water is shockingly obvious from the air. In the many years of Hunter's flights over the Chesapeake, he has documented many different changes on the shores and the bay. It really is fascinating to see.
